The Carson City Sheriff's Office (CCSO) determined threats of a "violent event" taking place at Carson High School on Wednesday are unsubstantiated.
That's according to a release from CCSO.
The Carson City School District says it began receiving tips of a threat to Carson High School just before 10:30 p.m. Monday.Â
Sheriff Ken Furlong quickly notified the school's superintendent, Andrew Feuling, of these threats. Feuling then informed other school faculty.Â
Reportedly, detectives, school resource officers, and patrol deputies worked overnight to identify the source of the threat. Around 4 a.m., they located the original social media post containing the threatening message.Â
Authorities determined the message was related to a different high school not in Nevada and "no specific, imminent threat was locally evident."
Despite assurance that the claims are unsubstantiated, there will be additional officers present at Carson High School throughout Wednesday. This is to "ensure a sense of safety and security," according to the CCSO release.Â
Sheriff Furlong also thanked the community for their assistance in the investigation. He pointed to the importance of the tips from residents, which allow law enforcement to immediately act upon threats such as these.Â
