We have new developments in a cyberattack targeting one of the nation's largest healthcare companies late last month.
The cyberattack on 'Change Healthcare' is preventing hospitals and pharmacies from getting paid and patients from getting prescriptions.
Change Healthcare processes 15 billion transactions annually - that's 1 in 3 U.S. patient records.
The Nevada Hospital Association says in the Silver State they've heard of impacts including inability to verify health insurance coverage, retail pharmacy challenges and patient portal disruptions.
Renown Health tells us they are affected:Â
"Providing excellent patient care is Renown Health's top priority, and we are working diligently to give our patients seamless access to the medications and care they need while Change Healthcare addresses issues related to the cyberattack. Because Change Healthcare's software is involved in processing prescription orders, we are equipping providers with the most up-to-date information to help them submit prescriptions to pharmacies that can successfully fulfill and process prescriptions. This includes Renown Pharmacy, which has three locations able to fill prescriptions for patients."
FEBRUARY 24, 2024:
The health tech company, Change Healthcare, is experiencing a cyber security issue.
It was first announced on Change Healthcare's incident page on February 21. The company says it immediately disconnected all of its systems after becoming aware of the cyber attack. It was originally only supposed to last 24 hours.
Some insurance networks under the provider are being affected, including Hometown Health, a Renown Health insurance provider.
The security breach is causing delays at pharmacies across the U.S.
Patients with insurance providers that are a part of Change Healthcare are having to pay out-of-pocket for medication until the problem can be resolved.
In the latest update posted Saturday morning, Change Healthcare said, "We have a high-level of confidence that Optum, UnitedHealthcare and UnitedHealth Group systems have not been affected by this issue."
The company also noted that its actively working on a solution and will provide more information as soon as it becomes available.
