Detectives from the Regional Crime Suppression Unit (RCSU) arrested Nathan Sanford after a short standoff on Yukon Drive in Sun Valley.

Sanford was wanted on a felony warrant from his felony arrest in April 2023.

On April 11, 2023, Sanford was wanted for a Domestic Violence case out of Washoe County.

Sanford was considered a danger to the community, and his lengthy violent criminal history led the RCSU to conduct an arrest operation.

During his arrest in the El Dorado Casino parking garage, Sanford was carrying a loaded gun, and four baggies of methamphetamine totaling just over 35 grams. He was also an unregistered felon.

For the incident, he was offered a plea deal for Ex-felon in Possession of a Firearm by the Washoe County District Attorney's office and sentenced to 28 to 82 months in prison.

The Reno District court judge presiding over the case deemed it appropriate for Sanford to serve 150 days probation instead of prison time. He was released on probation on September 21 of last year.

Sanford never reported to Parole and Probation and a felony warrant was put out.

On December 28, Sparks Police Department received a report of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon (gun). Sanford was the suspect of that case.

RCSU was made aware of both his possible involvement in the assault, and the felony warrant. This is when they began surveilling Sanford up to his arrest.

Sanford was arrested for the following charges in addition to the felony warrant prior to the assault case:

  • Ex-felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle

The Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge will be pending further investigation before it is ready to be charged.

Washoe County SWAT assisted with serving the warrant for Sanford at the address of the standoff.
