Original Story:
Lightning from storms rolling through the area have reportedly sparked ten new wildfires in Elko County.
According to a recent post from the Bureau of Land Management, storms that traveled through on August 1st are to blame for the numerous new fires.
Three of the fires have already been contained, as of Saturday morning. Seven remain active, including:
- The Midas Town Fire: A 90-acre fire with a full dozer line; no structures have been lost.
- The Jakes Fire: A fire burning 962 acres, still active with dozer lines on multiple flanks.
- The Milepost Fire: A 3,143-acre fire burning with dozer lines set up on multiple flanks.
- The Snowstorm Fire: Estimated at 10,000 acres after merging with the Oregon Flat Fire. Set in rugged terrain near a wilderness study area.
- The Adobe Mountain & Devil's Gate Road Fires: Reported Saturday morning - fire crews are responding.
Fire crews from every BLM district in Nevada and the Nevada Division of Forestry are currently assigned to the fires, and out-of-state support is being provided by Idaho's Twin Falls and Boise districts.
Fire officials are asking everyone to stay out of fire zones.
