UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid awarded the City of Reno with a check for $65,000 to help prevent homelessness.

A ceremony took place at the Reno City Hall Council Chamber on E. 1st Street Monday afternoon.

The funding is meant to support important initiatives aimed at preventing homelessness within the community.

Mayor Hillary Schieve was in attendance, saying, "It is absolutely transformational, this money, the fund that it's going to. It helps with our Reynolds Deposit Assistance and it literally transforms lives."

$50,000 of those dollars will be dedicated to providing interim hotel assistance for people who are between rental agreements.

The other $15,000 will go to the Reno Works program, which is a 12-week work program for individuals experiencing homelessness.
