13 Reno Fire Department firefighters and paramedics received special awards on Thursday for going above and beyond.
Nine of the first responders received the Medal of Lifesaving. The other four were awarded the Letter of Commendation.
Dozens of families, friends, and colleagues gathered at City Hall to watch the men and women be recognized for saving multiple lives at two separate fires.
The first one involved saving an injured woman.
Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran says, "The victim went down in the fire. She was unconscious. While one crew was fighting the fire, a second crew found the victim."
Gage Drum, one of the awarded firefighters, says, "We went in the building, my partner ended up finding the victim in there, and we were able to pull her out."
Paramedics then rushed the patient to Renown, where they fully recovered five days later.
The second fire had three people trapped on the second floor of an apartment building. Crews used a ladder to safely bring them down.
While many people are praising these first responders for their awards, they say they're proud, but it's just a part of the job.
Christian Razo, an awarded single-role paramedic, says, "To be commemorated in front of my daughter, really that's all I care about, but other than that it's really just doing our job."
Vanessa Sandoval, a single-role paramedic, says, "Learning that the patient's outcome was bettered by us, by just doing my job, it's a pretty amazing feeling."
