The Reno Aces held their final Throwback Thursday of the season, with their Silver Sox uniforms making one last bittersweet appearance as they hosted their in-state rivals, the Las Vegas Aviators, amidst their closing home series of the season.Â
While this may have been the last Throwback Thursday, the team has all kinds of fun planned this weekend for fans.
With a Panasonic Energy Fireworks night, Renown Health and the Lieutenant Governor's Office partnering for Hispanic heritage night, and a Taylor Swift night, before closing it all out with fan appreciation day on Sunday.
Team President Eric Edelstein touched on just how much appreciation there is for the fans.
"We try to operate every day like it's Fan Appreciation Day. I mean, without our fans, there is no job, right? Like the players, the players don't have anyone to play in front of. We don't have this beautiful stadium that we get to play in," he said. "We're super proud to have, you know, 350,000 fans a year. They come out here, see the Reno Aces, in the smallest market that hosts Triple-A baseball in the country."Â
Edelstein adds that it's such a unique fan and community experience here in Northern Nevada, and it would not be possible without the support of the fans.
He mentions all the moving pieces that come together to make gamedays happen, and how special this season has been, from the players, to the fans, and to those operations teams.Â
"We're very reliant on each other. There's a lot of, you know, very special skills where I like to think of us as a little city here," he said. "You know, we've got grass specialists, we've got engineers, we've got food specialists, we've got marketing specialists. We've got to do all manner of, you know, different skills and abilities that all sort of have to happen together to get these games played."Â
With such a special team and community, Edelstein loves these themed event nights that bring everyone together, and with only a few home games remaining, the home field advantage from the fans can be crucial.Â
"We can kind of all be one together here at the ballpark," said Edelstein. "We're super fortunate to be in a community like this, and we work really hard to make sure that the Reno across the chest that the players wear, that we embody that, so when we are out there playing, people know that these guys represent Reno."Â
The Silver Sox rallied to defeat the Aviators 6-5 Thursday night, and are looking forward to a fun-filled final weekend at the ballpark, with fireworks, Swifties, the Micheladas de Reno, and so much more.
