The Nevada Department of Agriculture is reporting that bird flu has been detected in dairy cows in Churchill County.

The location where the illness was detected has been quarantined according to a post from the department on Facebook. It will undergo strict testing until confirmed to be virus-free.

The NDA says there is no current risk to food and milk supplies, and they remain safe for consumption.

Livestock owners are advised to continue practicing good biosecurity.

The department also reminded people that raw milk is illegal in Nevada and unsafe for consumption.

The USDA has determined that pasteurized milk and dairy products are safe for consumption and do not transmit the virus to humans.
