Windspeeds are reaching approximately 20 miles per hour in the Reno-Sparks area, with rain expected.
According to the National Weather Service, a high wind warning is in effect until December 22.
Other local areas are also experiencing high windspeeds.
According to the National Weather Service, Carson City is seeing wind-speeds up to 25 miles per hour, with temperatures averaging 60 degrees. Truckee, California, is experiencing 30-mile-per-hour wind speeds, with average temperatures of 45 degrees.
The City of Reno is reminding the public, in an online post, that winds can potentially blow away unsecured items and bring down tree limbs. Winds can also cause power outages in local communities.
Travel can also be affected, especially for taller vehicles. According to the NDOT 511 website, vehicles over nine feet are prohibited at this time on I580 through Washoe Valley. Vehicles over nine feet are also prohibited on the 395 north of the spaghetti bowl.
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is reporting multiple flight cancellations. Airport officials say 7 diverted flights took place due to wind. They're also expecting flight impacts to continue throughout Sunday evening.
Reno City officials say they're paying attention to the weather conditions, adding that rain may also cause isolated flooding.
