Reno residents will soon see a 2.7% service charge on their sewer bills if they pay with debit and credit cards.
On a Facebook post, the City says it "does not receive any portion of the fee. This will impact bills due at the end of March 2026."
The City of Reno continues to accept payments online or by phone using a checking or savings account at no additional cost.
For assistance, call (775) 334-2095, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
We previously reported that the City of Reno approved the 2.7% increase in April, affecting any bill that comes directly from the City.Â
The 2.7% fee is considered a merchant fee that's collected by a Wells Fargo bank. For some time, the City was covering those fees using money from the City's general fund, building enterprise fund and the sewer fund.
The City believes that passing on these fees to the public will save the City over $1 million.
