The demolition process has officially begun on the old Reno Police building across the street from Greater Nevada Field.
Some officers were stopping by throughout the day, watching their former home get torn down leaving behind nothing but memories, including Assistant Chief Oliver Miller.
Miller says, "I've had the privilege of working out of this building since the mid to late 90s as an intern. I grew up here. A lot of our police operations, family events, good times, and bad times at this building."
While Miller says he's sad to see it go, they're also really happy with their new Public Safety Center.
Public Information Officer Chris Johnson describes it as "revolutionary".
He says, "It's completely different than this old building here. It's got a lot more technology, a lot more space for us to be able to grow as a department, as well as have different tools that all of our officers are able to utilize every day."
Johnson tells us this also marks a milestone for the Reno Fire Department.
Once the demolition finishes, construction will begin for the new Reno Fire headquarters which is expected to be complete in 2027. The department hasn't had a headquarters since 2008.
Johnson says demolition will take about two to three weeks so there's plenty of time to swing by and check it out for yourself.
