A haircut appointment was cut short after a teenager fleeing Sparks Police on a dirt bike was found parked outside a hair salon and arrested.

On Wednesday, just before 12:15 p.m., a Sparks Police patrol officer tried to stop an illegally operated dirt bike in the area of Pullman Drive and Union Street, according to a post on the Sparks Police Facebook page.

The rider of the dirt bike fled at high speed, and a pursuit was stopped for public safety reasons.

About five minutes later, another officer spotted the dirt bike parked outside a hair salon. When approached, the rider asked, “Can I finish my haircut?”

The haircut didn’t get finished. The teenager was arrested on charges of felony eluding, no registration, and no insurance.

In a subsequent press release, the Sparks Police Department said they have seen an increase in juveniles operating unauthorized vehicles on public roadways.

In another incident on Wednesday, a juvenile on an electric scooter was hit.

"The Sparks Police would like to encourage parents to have conversations with their children about the dangers of riding upon public roadways," said the SPD in a statement.
