A massage parlor in south Reno has been closed following an investigation by law enforcement revealing that the business allegedly solicited prostitution.
The Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit, made up of detectives from the Reno Police Department, the Sparks Police Department, and Washoe County School Police, identified multiple online advertisements promoting illegal prostitution at Wonderful Massage on Hillcrest Drive, according to a release from the HEAT Unit.
Through undercover work, evidence of prostitution-related activity was gathered.
The business was shut down through a collaboration between the HEAT unit and the owner of the property being leased, and the business owners left before an eviction planned for September 12.
Additionally, the City of Reno has officially closed its business license.
The closure of Wonderful Massage is one of several ongoing investigations into illicit massage parlors currently underway by the HEAT unit in both Reno and Sparks.
Illicit massage businesses often are involved in human trafficking, according to the release from the HEAT unit. They commonly exploit vulnerable people, often women, through force, fraud, or coercion.
Prostitution is illegal in Washoe County. Anyone with information about illicit massage parlors or suspected human trafficking is encouraged to contact the Reno Police Department’s non-emergency line at (775) 334-2677.
