APRIL 22, 2025:
A deadly stabbing in Reno over the weekend has left one woman dead and another woman in critical condition.
The woman who died has been identified as 52-year-old Carla Gonzales, who was a teacher at Sparks High School.
Her son, 20-year-old Carson Gonzales, was arrested for open murder with a deadly weapon and for battery with a deadly weapon on Saturday.
The other victim, who the family identifies as 46-year-old Angela Clay, is still in the hospital. She has a GoFundMe - to donate, check out the GoFundMe page.
The court documents share that the two were friends.
Before we break into the details, we want to warn you, what you're about to read can be considered very disturbing.
Last Saturday around 6:30 p.m. at the house off Powder Drive, the Reno Police Department received multiple 911 calls for a family disturbance that needed medical attention right away.
According to the court documents, when officers are got on scene they saw Clay lying in the driveway, while a neighbor was trying to help by applying pressure to the side of her neck.
Clay had deep cuts on her neck and cheek, but was still able to tell officers that her friend, Clara Gonzales, was inside the house.
Officers say that another neighbor directed the officers to the house, when they saw Carson Gonzales covered in blood, exiting the garage.
Court documents say that Carson was only wearing a white tank top and socks, but was naked everywhere else.
Officers say they heard Carson Gonzales say, "They attacked me, I don't know what the **** I'm doing."
Carson Gonzales was then put in handcuffs and the officers went inside the home.
Reno police say they saw the mother laying on the floor with a deep gaping wound on the neck. They said she was nearly decapitated.
She was pronounced dead on scene and the friend was transported to the hospital.
Officers then arrested Carson Gonzales and took him in for questioning.
While at the police station, officers claim that Carson Gonzales said, "It looks like I murdered them," "They were attacking me," "She's not dead, is she," "I can bring her back" and "She's alive."
In the meantime, the Reno Police Robbery Homicide Unit had to interview multiple witnesses - one of those being the other roommate in the house.
Court documents suggest he was in his room watching TV during the alleged stabbings.
The roommate had heard arguing that escalated into "bodies hitting the floor" and what sounded like "female groans of pain" taking place. He then called 911.
The roommate had said at one point the mother had shared with him that her son hadn't been taking his medication for six months.
During the interview Carson Gonzales had with police, he had said that he was nervous.
Officers claimed that Gonzales said that his mom's friend was coming over and that his mom acts differently around her.
Carson Gonzales had claimed that they were attacking him and he was defending himself, so he grabbed a knife from the kitchen drawer.
When officers asked how he defended himself, Gonzales said that he started hitting them, then he said, "I should never hit a woman."
During the interview, officers say Gonzales never described using the knife.
After some time, Gonzales asked for an attorney present and asked to call his half brother.
During the call, police say the half brother said, "I don't think you understand what you did, Carson."
To which Gonzales replied, "No I do understand, it's ***** horrible."
After the interview, officers say Carson Gonzales was transported to the hospital for injuries from resisting the officers and he had lacerations on his hands from the knife.
Gonzales had also let the medical staff know he was on three medications.
One of those was Risperidone, which can be prescribed to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or irritability caused by autism.
Carson Gonzales was supposed to have a bail hearing Tuesday, but it was pushed back to Wednesday.
