STEP2

Step2, a nonprofit organization in Nevada, has received a grant from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation to support its Bloom: Two Hearts, One Journey program.

A grant of $110,250 will be used to aid in stopping the cycle of addiction and violence by trying to empower women and children to rebuild their lives.

According to the organization, this program puts its focus on maternal health and supports pregnant and parenting women who are recovering from substance use disorders.

Step2 also states that the grant they received will be used to expand access to housing, counseling, parenting classes, and recovery support that can help families deal with hardships.

“This generous support from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation allows us to reach more mothers who are working to rebuild their lives,” said Mari Hutchinson, Chief Executive Officer of STEP2. “Through the BLOOM program, we help women and children find stability, strength, and hope for the future. We are deeply grateful for this partnership and the positive impact it will have on our community.”

Step2 will aim to support approximately 300 women and address local disparities by improving maternal health outcomes, supporting long-term recovery, and promoting stability over the next three years.

This partnership between the two organizations will look at how to build stronger, healthier communities by finding the root causes of health challenges and supporting families on rebuilding their lives.

“At Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, we are committed to improving whole-person health by supporting community-based organizations like STEP2,” said Joy Thomas, President, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicaid in Nevada. “STEP2’s work changes lives and helps create healthier futures for women and children across Northern Nevada.”
