If you’ve ever dreamed of having a wild horse in your backyard, now’s the chance. The Bureau of Land Management is giving people the opportunity to adopt or purchase wild horses online, with local pickup in Reno.
The event runs February 9-16, on the BLM’s Online Corral website, featuring wild horses gathered from public lands to maintain healthy herds and rangelands.
Animals adopted or purchased during the event will be available for pickup either February 26-27 at the Palomino Valley Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Center in Reno, or on March 6 at the Boise Wild Horse Off-Range Corral in Idaho. Each animal’s profile page notes its pickup location.
The Online Corral is the BLM’s internet-based platform where people can browse photos, videos, and details about available wild horses and burros, submit applications, and complete the adoption or purchase process entirely online.
The February 9-16 event is a fixed-price event. Approved applicants can adopt or purchase an animal for $125 on a first-come, first-served basis, with no bidding required.
To participate, people must create an account on the Online Corral and submit an application for approval. Users can browse the Animals gallery, select the Adopt or Buy Now option, and then click Search to view available animals.
Prospective adopters are encouraged to submit applications early to ensure approval before the February 16 deadline. Detailed requirements for adoption and purchase are available on the BLM’s website.
The BLM manages wild horses and burros across 25.6 million acres of public lands in 10 Western states. Since 1971, more than 300,000 wild horses and burros have been placed into new homes, helping ensure healthy animals and rangelands for future generations.
