The Reno Elks Lodge #597 is preparing for the launch of its second annual Socktober donation drive, which begins October 1.
The effort aims to collect new socks, underwear, and bras in all sizes to support veterans, children in local schools, and organizations including the Women & Children’s Center of the Sierra and Project 150.
The idea for the drive began after Elks member Sue Babbs visited a local outreach program and noticed a veteran without clean socks.
The experience prompted the lodge to organize a collection drive focused on basic essentials that are often overlooked.
This year, 55 labeled Socktober collection barrels will be placed at various locations throughout Reno.
The Reno Elks Lodge at 597 Kumle Lane will also serve as the main donation site.
All items must be new and unopened.
People who prefer to donate online can send items directly to the Lodge using Amazon.
Businesses and community groups are encouraged to contribute, host drives, or share information using the hashtag #Socktober.
“Delivering these donations is about more than clothing—it’s about showing our community we care,” said Sue Babbs, Socktober organizer. “Together, we can wrap Reno in kindness and comfort.”
