From record calls to new equipment, a closer look at how a fire department kept up with demand in 2025!

The Reno Fire Department is pulling back the curtain on a year that kept crews moving, sharing new details about how often they were called and how the department grew to keep up.

In its 2025 annual report, the department outlines a year marked by high call volume, staffing changes, and new equipment added to the fleet, all while continuing to respond locally and across the country.

Crews responded to 57,044 calls for service over the year, including 29,913 emergency medical calls. The department also completed 5,128 business inspections and conducted 2,100 fire plan reviews.

Beyond local response, more than 150 personnel were deployed to fires across the country.

Staffing also expanded, with 24 airport firefighters brought on and Station 90 incorporated into operations. The department reported 15 promotions and hired two single-role EMS personnel.

New equipment was added to support response efforts, including a squad car, heavy rescue apparatus, UTV, air bottle refill trailer, ambulance, and two Type 3 brush engines.

Infrastructure upgrades were also part of the year’s work, with Nederman exhaust systems installed in 10 stations, fully funded through grants.

The department also launched a new dashboard aimed at providing the public with more access to information.

"The Reno Fire Department accomplished remarkable things in 2025, from expanding its services to giving back to the community,” said Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran. “At the end of the day, our top priority is protecting residents, and I look forward to building on that work in 2026.”
