A pilot suffered minor injuries after a small plane crashed onto a snowy mountainside in Elko County on Sunday.
Deputies say they responded to an iPhone crash notification around 10:30 a.m. in a remote area of Elko County, in the East Humboldt Mountain Range and south of Hole in the Mountain Peak.
Deputies say the plane struck the mountain at approximately 10,200 feet - above the snow line - in dense cloud cover temporarily preventing air rescue resources from flying near the crash site. As a result, first responders walked to the site knowing that they might have to move the pilot themselves down the mountain.
Fortunately, a few hours later, the cloud cover disappeared and a helicopter airlifted the pilot and transported that person to medical services.
There’s no immediate word on their condition.
