The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team earned second-place in the 2026 Staccato National SWAT Championships.
The competition is a 3-day challenge of SWAT Teams' shooting proficiency, physical agility, and tactical acumen.
WCSO advanced to the championship round, facing the top team, Oregon State Police.
Sheriff Darin Balaam praised the team for competing against some of the best tactical teams in the country, saying “I could not be prouder of our team. These are not just competitors representing WCSO on a national stage. They are members of our SWAT Team who serve and protect our community when the circumstances are at their most critical.”
The team also earned $40,000 in prize money, which WCSO says will help fund training, equipment and operational readiness.
