Nevada Women’s Tennis moved to 3-1 on the season following a weekend sweep over NCAA DIII Pomona-Pitzer and UC San Diego.

February 1 vs Pomona-Pitzer

Nevada easily defeated the Sagehens, sweeping the doubles session, followed by three singles victories.

Marlene Foerster and Silvia-Maria Costache paired up on court one to defeat Lauren Rha and Amelia Poor, 6-2. A victory on court two from Amahée Charrier and Kennedy Robinson, 6-2, clinched the doubles point for Nevada. Petra Janigova and Lou-Anne Guerbert won their third flight match, 7-5.

The Wolf Pack’s singles victories came quickly, dropping only five games in the wins combined.

Foerster picked up her sixth win of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Nyakiriri Kanefu on court two. Freshman Petra Janigova defeated Sofia Kalyva, 6-0, 6-2 in her fifth-flight match. Robinson rounded out the dual with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Wini Lindholm.

February 2 at UC San Diego

The Wolf Pack’s Sunday victory was more contested, despite clinching the dual, 4-1.

Nevada won the doubles point with wins from Charrier/Robinson and Janigova/Boubaker. Charrier and Robinson won their flight two match against Adriana Tabares and Kelly Leung, picking up a key break to win 6-4. Janigova and Boubaker won with an identical score, defeating Grace Gamal and Katelyn Vu on court three. The Pack’s doubles victory was in comeback fashion after losing the top-flight match, 6-2.

Costache extended the Wolf Pack lead, defeating Naomi Nguyen, 6-2, 6-4 on court four. Foerster pushed the Nevada lead to three with a tight victory against Gamal, 7-5, 6-4, her third victory of the weekend. The Tritons pulled back a point winning on court one, 7-5, 6-4.

The Wolf Pack clinched the dual after Guerbert’s dominant comeback against Leung. After losing the first set, 7-5, Guerbert cruised past Leung, 6-1, 6-2, clinching the dual.

UC San Diego picked up two consolation points after the squads played out the dual. Tabares defeated Boubaker, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, while Vu was victorious over Janigova, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (2).

Nevada will return to Southern California in just under two weeks with matches at UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton, February 13-14.
