National Safe Boating Week is May 18-24, and the Douglas and Placer County Sheriff's Offices shared some tips on how to stay safe while boating ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says you should always wear properly fitted life jackets, drive at the appropriate speeds and follow navigation rules.
You should also never drink alcohol while driving a boat.
The Placer County Sheriff's Office added that you should always let someone on shore know where you plan to go, who is on board, and the boat type and registration.
