US stocks roar toward their best day since May as Dow surges 1,000 points and bitcoin stops plunging
The U.S. stock market is roaring back as Wall Street recovers much of its losses from earlier in the week. The S&P 500 jumped 1.7% Friday and was heading for its best day since May. The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 1,102 points and topped the 50,000 level for the first time, while the Nasdaq composite climbed 1.9%. Chip companies helped drive the gains on hopes for more big spending by customers building out their AI offerings. Stocks also got a boost from a better reading on sentiment among U.S. consumers. Bitcoin rose back above $70,000 to halt its weekslong plunge, at least for now.
