Search and rescue teams are combing through the debris of a collapsed building in New Delhi. The death toll has climbed to seven, officials said Monday. The five-story building, which housed a boys’ hostel, collapsed on Sunday in a densely populated neighborhood near a Delhi University campus. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta says rescuers pulled at least 12 people from the rubble. The building was at least 55 years old and under renovation before reopening to tenants in August. Preliminary findings suggest water accumulation and ongoing repairs may have caused the collapse. Authorities have arrested the building owner and suspended municipal employees responsible for safety oversight.
