Democrat Nithya Raman stressed her independence from the Democratic Socialists of America, highlighting her disagreements with the group that is backing her candidacy for Los Angeles mayor. She says her independence will always be paramount. Raman appeared at a forum co-hosted by the Jewish Federation Los Angeles with Mayor Karen Bass, a fellow Democrat she is trying to oust. Bass is fighting to keep her job after a rough first term that included the deadly Palisades Fire. It was the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history. Raman says the city is desperate for fresh leadership.
