The heat is not something to take lightly. Muscle cramps can be an early symptom of heat exhaustion. Dizziness, weakness, excessive sweating, and nausea can all be symptoms of heat exhaustion. If heat exhaustion progresses it turns into a heat stroke, which is an emergency. By that point you'll experience a throbbing headache, confusion, and slurred speech.

The car is not a safe place to be without any air conditioning. Even in 20 minutes the temperature can rise from 70 degrees to 99 degrees. The summer is not the only time heat stroke can occur in a car. According to the National Weather Service, over 900 children lost their lives in cars because of the heat since 1998. Leaving your wallet or an important bag in the back where your child is can help you remember to not leave your child in the car. You can also leave a stuffed animal in the front seat as a reminder. Make sure to always lock your door as well, since a child can climb in and get stuck.
