First responders are reminding people that fireworks are illegal in many areas across the region, among them all of Washoe county, including Reno, Sparks, and unincorporated areas.
All fireworks, including sparklers, are banned as they can cause wildfires which can quickly spread.
Officials say each year fireworks cause fires, injuries, and property damage.
They urge people to celebrate safely at fireworks shows, BBQ's and community gatherings.
Making wise choices will help avoid severe fires. Reno fire Chief Dave Chochran spoke to us on the importance of enjoying the holiday safely.
"Routine activities, mowing your lawn, it can throw a rock cause a spark, weed eating, all manner of thing," said Chochran about how easy it is to spark a fire.
Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance also reminds people that even if you buy fireworks somewhere where they're legal it is still illegal to use them here.
Violations can result in steep fines per offense and/or jail time, plus seizure of the fireworks.
"(It) endangers another person or creates a fire, there is penalties that can happen depending on how big the issue is," said nance. "So obviously they could go all the way up to homicide, if they intentionally started a fire, that caused the death of another person or to property."
Officials can't stress enough to be cautious and safe.
There are plenty of ways to enjoy the July 4th holiday without running into a major fire disaster.
