Senator Catherine Cortez Masto hosted the Stanley Cup in the United States Capitol on Wednesday to honor the Vegas Golden Knights' win in the National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Final last year.
She helped pass a resolution in the Senate to recognize the Golden Knights for their first NHL championship, and honor them for uniting Las Vegas after the Route 91 Harvest Festival tragedy.
Last year was the second time in six years that the Golden Knights have made it to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Their win was also the second major league professional sports championship in the state of Nevada.
“It’s an honor to host the Stanley Cup here today and celebrate our Golden Knights champions who have accomplished so much in just six seasons,” said Senator Cortez Masto.
“From the U.S. Capitol to ‘The Fortress’, the Golden Knights always make Nevada proud. Las Vegas is now one of the premier sports cities in the country, and I’ll continue to support our incredible sports and entertainment industry.”
