The Reno City Council on Wednesday heard the latest on the preferred redevelopment option for the city's ReTRAC covers near the arch.
The area under proposal is between Whitney Peak and Eldorado, on the west side of Virginia Street.
Maureen McKissick said that the concept was originally conceived as retail space, but the idea has evolved since 2007.
"I think people would like to see it as more of a vibrant downtown place. Some place to congregate, for residents to go, people to run into each other, get a cup of coffee, visit. So a little more of a neighborhood amenity than just a commercial space,” says Maureen McKissick, Assistant to the City Manager.
Here are the improvements that the groups are presenting to the city council:
* install white twinkle lights on the trees
* integrate historic elements and sculptures
* create a dog park on west cover
* create opportunities for retail along the perimeter
* ensure pedestrian safety between east and west covers.
There is no timetable for the city council to give final approval.
