RTC to Host Mayberry Drive Reconstruction Project Meeting May 20th

From the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County:

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County is inviting the public to help plan improvements to the Keystone Avenue Corridor. An open house will take place at Peavine Elementary School, located at 1601 Grandview Avenue in Reno, on Thursday, August 21st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be a brief introduction at 5:15 p.m.

RTC has been studying Keystone Avenue from California Avenue to McCarran Drive. The study also involves Booth Street from Riverside Drive to California Avenue, and California Avenue from Cherry Lane to Newlands Circle as well as Foster Drive from Booth Street to Keystone Avenue. The study examines how to make the area accommodating for all modes of transportation, including by vehicle, bike and on foot. Key among the study's objectives is to improve safety for everyone.

Based on input at three public outreach events, RTC has developed recommended improvements. Some ideas could be implemented in the short-term, while others are longer range improvements. The upcoming open house event is an opportunity for members of the public to provide feedback on the recommendations, and to have questions answered by RTC staff. Possible improvements include: adding a free right turn for traffic moving from Kings Row onto Keystone, narrowing vehicle lanes to reduce speeding, adding ramps in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), adding bike lanes to Vine Street, improving access to businesses and widening sidewalks.

As a result of public input, a complete street plan is also being considered for Keystone Avenue from University Terrace to Coleman Drive. A complete street provides separate spaces for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians improving safety and connectivity. A center turn lane is also being considered.
