Shoppers Square has announced about $34 million worth of plans to revitalize the 150,000 square-foot center with a full redesign and addition of new tenants.
The redeveloped center, located at the corner of Plumb Lane and South Virginia Streets, will include retail space, a public market food hall and specialty organic grocer.
“Shoppers Square has been our family-jewel for more than 54 years and before that it was our family-owned ranch. We envisioned a future in retail and found success in creating a family-run city center in the 60s,” said Rick Casazza, representative of the Casazza family. “Continuing the legacy in 2018, we are committed to bringing an incomparable mix of amenities to Reno that complements the existing culture.”
Casazza says when it's all said and done, you'll hardly recognize the place. CVS will be moving into the former Shepler's, Marshal's is relocating to south Reno and about three quarters worth of the front end of the building will be coming down.
"We will be raising the interior of the mall and creating what we call a food hall," said Casazza.
The food hall will be anchored by a distillery and tap-house. Here people can sit and listen to live music and choose from dozens of food vendors to eat from. At the other end of the mall will be a market style organic grocer and a number of other new stores.
"We'll also be building two new multi-tenant pads out in front of the shopping center to replace some of the square footage that we're tearing down," said Casazza. "If we can create a sense of place for people to come and create this exciting environment, we think it's a great time to do it because the area is ripe for this kind of development."
Construction will begin in fall 2018, with full completion approximately two years later.
Authorities will announce new tenants throughout the year.
