Governor Steve Sisolak signed three bills into law this week that help support diverse communities throughout Nevada.

“These bills will undoubtedly advance the State of Nevada’s commitment to the inclusion and integration of our diverse communities by taking concrete steps to ensure that all Nevada residents have access to our state’s services and resources”, said Governor Sisolak.

Senate Bill 222 brings together the Nevada Office for New Americans, the Office of Minority Health and Equity and the Commission on Minority Affairs to organize an annual meeting to discuss ways to increase access and inclusivity as well eliminate systemic racism and tear down structural barriers. The bill also requires state agencies to designate a diversity and inclusion liaison and put their contact information on the internet so minority groups can get in contact with them.

Senate Bill 318 makes sure that the Division of Public Health and Behavioral Health of the Departemnt and Healht and Human Services and each district health department take reasonable measures to make sure those who have limited English proficiency have access to services that help protect them against COVID-19.

Senate Bill 327 expands the protections of Nevadans against discrimination. The bill now includes traits including hair texture and protective hairstyles.
