The Northern California Volleyball Association returned to Reno this weekend at the Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) Facility.Â
This is the first major event at the RSCVA in more than a year. More than 700 teams are expected to play in the tournament, bringing around 9,000 players and 8,000 coaches and family members to Reno.Â
Officials say The State of Nevada Department of Business and Industry approved the operations with strict safety protocols in place, including requiring proof of a negative COVID-19 test.Â
RSCVA President and CEO Charles Harris says they were excited to welcome athletes back. “As general business begins its resurgence throughout the U.S., the health and safety of our clients, our employees, and the residents of Northern Nevada is our top priority. Given our long-standing partnership with NCVA, we are confident in the success of these upcoming tournaments," Harris said.Â
Other Northern California Volleyball Association events held in Reno include the NCVA Girls Power League April 30 through May 2 and the NCVA Boys Far Western Bid Tournament May 7 through May 9.Â
Officials say the tournaments could bring in more than $10.7 million to the area.Â
