JUNE 27 UPDATE:
The Nevada State Police has released video of a shooting incident involving a Churchill County Sheriff's Office deputy that happened on June 16.
The video, released on the Nevada State Police YouTube page, provides preliminary details of their investigation as well as footage from the incident itself. It contains profanity and images some might find disturbing. It can be watched below.
The video shows the scene of the incident, with the deputy on scene telling 46-year-old Denny Benka to walk towards him and leave his trailer so that firefighters can put out a vehicle fire.
Benka is seen in the video holding a hatchet and refusing the deputy's orders.
He then goes back into his trailer, emerging with what looks like a rifle, but was later revealed to be a pneumatic rifle.
The deputy shouts for Benka to drop the weapon, and the video cuts before the deputy opens fire.
The video concludes with a spokesperson for the Nevada State Police saying that, based on the facts and circumstances known at the time, the deputy was acting in defense of himself during a rapidly evolving situation that included the threat of a deadly weapon.
An investigation into the cause of the vehicle fire and the shooting remains ongoing.

JUNE 25 UPDATE:
New details have been released in a fatal shooting incident that happened last Monday involving a Churchill County Sheriff's Office deputy.
The CCSO requested that the Nevada State Police Division of Investigations conduct an independent investigation into the incident, according to a release.
On June 16, just before 7:30 p.m., authorities got calls of a fire on Trento Lane near Mustang Pond. In addition to the Sheriff's Office, the Churchill County Fire Department responded to the call.
Around 7:45 p.m., a CCSO deputy arrived on the scene and located a vehicle fully engulfed in flame. The deputy made contact with a person identified as 46-year-old Denny Benka, who was standing on the porch of his R.V. near the fire.
The deputy told Benka to move away so firefighters could work on putting out the blaze, but Benka refused to comply, responded confrontationally, and brandished a hatchet, according to the release.
The deputy pulled his gun and ordered Benka to drop his weapon, the release says, but Benka did not comply.
Benka then went into his trailer and came back out with what appeared to be a scoped high-caliber rifle, the release says.
This weapon was later identified as a pneumatic rifle.
Benka then allegedly raised and aimed the weapon at the deputy, and the deputy fired to protect himself.
The deputy provided medical assistance to Benka and took him to an ambulance, where medical personnel tried to save his life but were unsuccessful.
The deputy involved in the incident has five years of service with the CCSO and more than ten years of total law-enforcement experience.
In accordance with agency policy, the deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Benka had a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1998, according to the Sheriff's Office, including prior arrests for resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer, battery, and arson.
The cause of the fire, as well as the shooting, remain under active investigation.
