Long time viewers of 2 News will likely recognize this week's Someone 2 Know.

Jack Sutton has been part of the KTVN family for more than 40 years and host of the show Nevada Backroads for 30.

Since the 1980's, Sutton has traveled the Silver State with purpose -- searching for special stories.

"To leave people with a 'feel good' sense,  you know, little kids going swimming in an old swimming hole in the middle of the desert,” he explains.

And while Jack has shared front porch steps and conversation with thousands of Nevadans, he says one favorite stands out: "Her name was Bertha Scott Cliff, she was born on the family ranch in Washoe Valley."

Sutton says the Nevada English teacher lived to be 105.

"I'm asking her questions and she would stop me, 'now, Jack, I want to correct your grammar, you left a dangling participle there, you know.'"

Jack loves story-telling, but broadcasting is not his full time job.

Dr. John H Sutton is an optometrist.

"My patients, they don't know.  Some of them do, they ask, 'hey, aren't you - do you have a twin brother on TV that does that?'"

The TV gig started in 1978 when a college buddy, who was working as the news director at KTVN, reached out to him. "But he was looking for somebody to do a program on health and fitness and he asked me and I said I'm not interested, I don't wanna do that."

Sutton eventually relented and his on-air experience led him to create Nevada Backroads.

He explains his process; "Come up with the stories, get out and we produce them. I script them, I voice them, I edit them.”

Sutton loves having more than one job and says he has no plans to retire – ever.

"I tell people, I've never worked a day in my life. I enjoy everything I've ever done.”

Nevada Backroads can be seen on KTVN every Sunday night on 2 News at 6:30 p.m.
