A day after President Donald Trump and Joe Biden Faced off in the first Presidential Debate, Donald Trump Junior came to Northern Nevada to campaign for his Father. The 'Make America Great Again' campaign stop in Sparks was at an outdoor venue at Peterbilt Truck Parts and Equipment.
Wednesday's event was the second Trump Campaign stop in Northern Nevada this election season.
"I think we can do very well in Nevada. I think we did pretty darn well for a Republican last time around and I think more importantly people have seen the results since then." said Trump Jr. in an interview with 2 News.
Before the event the City of Sparks said it would be enforcing the Governor's COVID-19 related directives and it would take appropriate action. It had to review a temporary use permit application beforehand. Restrictions limited the event to 1,000 people. Event producers were also responsible for compliance with COVID-19 guidelines, like social distancing and health screenings.
The face covering mandate was also supposed to be enforced, however some people in the crowd weren't wearing one. Some supporters of the President say they don't want to live in fear, but those backing rival candidate Joe Biden say the President's large gatherings are irresponsible during the pandemic.
Alex Goff with the Nevada State Democratic Party said, "Trump's been reckless throughout this entire pandemic and we've seen that through his events and doors that are largely attended. I think the Vice President takes the information passed down from scientists and doctors very seriously and is following that."
"I have no fear at all. We're smart. We're adults. We know what to do and what not to do. you have to take responsibility for yourself." said Caroline Smith, an attendee of the 'Make America Great Again' Rally.
In response to the questionable enforcement of safety regulations, Trump Jr. said, "We take precautions. I'm not doing the handshaking that I normally do; the crowd surfing I normally do. We hand out PPE, and we give masks to people, and they have to decide for themselves. We're not about big government will tell you, you must do this."
Throughout the campaign rally, Trump Jr. took Jabs at Joe Biden regarding Biden's age, his son Hunter Biden, and history in politics.
"If you think Joe Biden can fix anything, he's been there for 50 years." said Trump Jr. "Name a Biden accomplishment... If you can't isn't that a problem?"
He also focused on why he believes his father will be re-elected. He and many supporters referenced the economy and tax cuts.
"Donald Trump didn't need this job. But he did it and he brought us to new heights with no experience in Washington D.C. with no rolodex, with no non-sense, and he got it done for the American people. He's going to fight for the American people."
Ray Rocha, with the Trump and Nevada GOP Campaign said, "Too many of the politicians have been in 30 or 40 years, without any business experience. Trump has business experience. You might not like his style but he gets the job done."
