Four Pro Sports Leagues To Restrict Locker Room Access Over Coronavirus Fears

Officials said Friday the Los Angeles Unified School District and San Diego school districts will close starting March 16 because of the coronavirus threat.

The decision was announced by superintendents of both districts, which together serve 750,000 students.

They are the latest in a growing number of districts to close up and down the state.

A wave of closures and postponements spanning everything from government offices to cultural events and sports followed Gov. Gavin Newsom's call this week for cancellation of all non-essential gatherings of 250 people or more.

Disneyland and its California Adventure park planned to close Saturday.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Six Flags Magic Mountain in California have temporarily suspended operations until the end of March.

Placer County school district officials say they've decided to close all public schools and state preschools in Placer County for the next three weeks in order to protect the health and safety of students and the community.

They said schools will be contacting families about services and resources available to them throughout the closure, including distance learning options and meals.

Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District officials say schools will be closing effective Monday, March 16 as well.

El Dorado County officials announced they will temporarily cancel several programs and gatherings for older adults in an event to prevent the spread.

This includes:

  • El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program meal sites closed for dine-in lunches. Meals available for pick-up only, by reservation and designated meal sites.
  • El Dorado County Older Adult Services in Placerville and El Dorado Hills temporarily suspending program and all non-essential services and group gatherings at the Placerville Senior Center
  • Placerville Senior Center to remain open to provide essential community services
