The Associated Students of the University of Nevada announced a new internship program Tuesday that will connect students with local businesses.
This internship program is different because it offers paid internships to students, but not at the cost of the businesses.
ASUN is funding the program for about 20 students this year.
"Students across all academic colleges, whatever major they're studying, can participate and benefit from this program because of the strong cross-section of industries that we have represented,” says ASUN Vice President Alex Bybee.
The Pack Internship Grant program offers 21 internships this spring with 12 different local businesses and organizations.
Students can work with private companies, governmental agencies and nonprofits for $12 an hour.
ASUN is funding the program through its budget which comes from student fees.
It's costing $30,000 this year, but they do hope to expand in the future.
And organizers say it's a great opportunity for students to try their hand at future careers and make themselves more marketable.
"I think the importance of having a program like this is giving students relevant skill to be competitive in an increasingly competitive job market when they graduate."
Students can apply for the internships starting today through November 14.
