Classroom pencils

Some Washoe County teachers are asking parents for extra school supplies this year.

Instead of asking parents to buy one tissue box and one glue stick, this year some teachers are asking to buy two or three.

According to the Washoe County School District's Website, not all teachers are asking parents to buy in bulk but they encourage parents to visit their website to see if their teacher has posted a list.

"Before purchasing any school supplies, we encourage parents and families to visit their school website, which can be accessed at www.washoeschools.net. Some of our schools have already posted lists of supplies they would like students to bring on the first day of school. If your school has not posted a list of supplies, your child's teacher may provide that information after school begins," says Victoria Campbell,  WCSD Public Information Officer. She adds.

"If parents have any concerns or questions, they should talk with their child's teacher."

Nonetheless, some parents are willing to put up the extra money.

"In a sense, you know it's good for the kids I mean at the end of the day we have to buy it, it's for them it's for their own good," says Nathaly Sandoval, mother of a Washoe County student.
