The National Park Service reports a hiker died at the Kings Canyon National Park on Thursday.
They said around 4 p.m. that day they received an SOS call from a satellite device from the John Muir/Pacific Crest Trail near Center Peak, just north of Forester Pass.
A hiker reported a possible fall and was unable to make direct contact with the person due to terrain and monsoon-type weather.
A park ranger responded on foot and a helicopter was requested.
Another park ranger was short-hauled in a helicopter to evacuate the 37-year-old hiker who was uninjured.
Around 6:30 p.m. the park ranger on foot confirmed the hiker's partner, a 30-year-old male, had died.
A recovery operation was completed the next day at 12,000 feet elevation and the body was transported to the Tulare County Coroner's Office.
The investigation is still ongoing but the National Park Service said their information indicates an accidental fall.
Names have not been released at this time.
