Sandoval says "U.S. Must Maintain Presence in Afghanistan"

Gov. Brian Sandoval

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval plans to announce the details of a $437 million tax proposal at a Carson City press conference.

The Republican governor is giving specifics on Thursday about the business licensing tax change he first announced in his State of the State address earlier in January.

Sandoval also proposed extending a number of so-called "sunset taxes" set to expire this summer and changing several other taxes to dramatically increase funding for K-12 education.

Sandoval proposed changing the state's static annual business license fee of $200 to a tiered system based on a company's revenue and industry type.

The governor described the new tiered system as the "broadest, least complicated, and fairest solution" in his speech.

Lawmakers will begin debating the plan after the legislative session begins Monday.  (AP)
