The City of Reno unveiled its first historic marker in its new marker program to help commemorate the history of the city.
The marker is a tribute to the old Harold's Club which used to be where the Harrah’s Casino now stands.
Councilwoman Jenny Brekhus was on hand to speak about how the casino helped put Reno on the map and usher in the modern age of gaming in Nevada.
"We wanted to leave something that’s going to celebrate what Harold’s Club did for the state, for gaming, for the city of Reno, the whole works,” says Neal Cobb.
The Harold’s Club even had an impact here in the newsroom. Our web editor, Kellene Stockwell had two grandmothers who worked there she sent us photos of some of their memorabilia.
One photo shows a 4/5 quart, 86 proof of Bourbon Whiskey, made by Jim Beam. And another photo shows a January 1967 calendar with all three Smiths.
