Early Sunday morning, South Lake Tahoe Police responded to a domestic disturbance where 24-year-old Alan Martinez of South Lake Tahoe was holding a woman hostage at gunpoint.
They say Martinez tried to escape out a window, and threw his pistol and rifle ammunition out with him.
Police say Martinez eventually surrendered to police who had surrounded him.
They then found an AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine in the yard hidden among children’s toys.
Police say he was charged with domestic violence, illegal weapons charges and criminal threats against the woman.
They say the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
