Renown Health announced a $5 million donation going towards the Conrad Breast Cancer Center currently under construction. The donation came from the namesakes of the new center, Jeanne and Raymond Conrad, and is nearly half of Renown's $11 million fundraising goal.

“We’re going to raise another six million dollars to build out the third floor and to buy all the services for cancer care," said Greg Walaitis, the Chief Development Officer at the Renown Health Foundation.

The donation will help continue construction on the third floor of the Conrad Breast Center.

“We rely to be the charitable choice for folks, plus provide the best of the best, so no one has to go across over the mountain or anywhere else for their healthcare,” he said.

The severity of breast cancer in our area is high, but donations like this will help Reno improve health care in our community. The center will be a multipurpose facility with the third floor providing infusion services and surgery, and the second floor with operating rooms.

Jeanne and Raymond Conrad said they're proud to make a major contribution of health care in Nevada, have the Conrad Breast Cancer Center as a legacy.

“There was a strong team that Dr. Max Coppes was leading to drive the level of cancer care in the Reno community, and his vision is to be able to achieve a NCI designation,” Jeanne Conrad said.

NCI stands for the National Cancer Institute, and the designation only applies to about 4% of cancer institutes around the country according to Jeanne.

“Nothing in this community will compare to what this breast cancer center will do," Jeanne said. "The surgeons are here. The imaging is here. The infusion therapy is here. Everything that they need for the latest state of the art care is here at Renown.”

Renown Health's vision is to continue providing the best of the best, and right now the first step is progressing cancer care in our community.
