DECEMBER 13 UPDATE

The California Highway Patrol has released the identities of two people who died in a crash south of Meyers on Thanksgiving night.

50-year-old Peggy Liu of Fremont, California, and 84-year-old Donald Smith died in the crash.

One other person, identified as 28-year-old Jeffrey Chen of Kirkland, Washington, suffered major injuries in the crash.

Two people are dead after a head-on crash on U.S. 50 south of Meyers on Thanksgiving night. 

California Highway Patrol says a Toyota Sequoia was heading west while a Chevrolet Traverse was heading east on U.S. 50 near Audrain Way around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. 

CHP says for some unknown reason, the two SUVs collided head-on - in the eastbound lane.

Authorities say the Traverse driver and a passenger from the Sequoia died.

Four other people inside the Toyota suffered injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

CHP says the Traverse driver was an 84-year-old man from Wellington while the Sequoia passenger was a 50-year-old woman was from Fremont - their names haven't been released.
