Odds of slick roads

It is going to be a challenging Thursday morning commute with accumulating snow overtop of ice. Another low will round the corner of the main trough early Thursday morning, first bringing snow to the Sierra then the valley. The track of the low will play a big role in who in the valley sees the most snow. As of now, it will favor Reno over Minden, but it will be something to watch.

Potential snowfall amounts

It will be cold enough for all snow, so regardless of how much snow we get it will be slick Thursday morning. Snow totals will range from 2-4 inches in the lower elevations closer to the Reno Airport and downtown, to 4-6 inches in the foothills. The Sierra could pick up another 1-2 feet of snow by late Thursday.

Road conditions for Cold Springs, Carson City, Mt. Rose Highway, and USA Parkway
Road conditions for Susanville, Spanish Springs, Highway 50, and I-80 West
Road conditions forecast for Virginia City, Truckee, Carson Pass, and Dayton
Road conditions for Robb Drive, Reno, and McCarran Blvd.

Roads will be messy through much of the day on Thursday, but the snow will lighten up as the day goes on. Friday morning will be slick from the leftovers. Highs on Thursday will be in the lower to mid 30’s, so similar to Tuesday, but on a much smaller scale. This will be enough snow to shovel.Â
