Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada SNAP assistance information

Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is partnering with the Division of Social Services (DSS) to help residents understand upcoming changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that could affect thousands of Nevadans.

DSS staff will be available this Friday, October 24, from noon to 3 p.m. at St. Vincent’s Food Pantry, 500 E. Fourth St., to meet with people who receive SNAP benefits or believe they may be impacted.

In early October, Catholic Charities was notified that federal SNAP waivers will end within 30 days, taking effect on November 2.

Since updates to SNAP policy typically begin at the start of a month, officials say this suggests that the Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents work requirements are likely to resume in December.

These changes come as several states warn that November SNAP benefits could be delayed if the ongoing federal funding lapse continues, potentially leaving families without timely access to food assistance.

Community members are encouraged to meet with DSS staff during Friday’s event to learn about new eligibility requirements and take steps to prevent any disruption to their benefits.

Catholic Charities said it will continue collaborating with DSS to ensure families stay informed and connected to available support, including food pantry services and workforce programs.
