The inmate was driven to a local hospital around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
After being admitted, the inmate's condition grew worse.
Hospital staff engaged in life-saving measures to try to save the inmate, but the inmate succumbed to their condition and passed away Sunday afternoon.
There is no indication of self-harm, foul play or criminal activity, officials say.
Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detectives and the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office will be conducting their official investigations into the incident, and when the inmate's family has been properly notified the identity of the inmate will be released.
