Elko County Sheriff's patrol car

An Elko County deputy is on administrative leave after being arrested on a domestic violence charge.

The sheriff’s office says Deputy Dennis Johnston was arrested on Wednesday with the help of the Elko Police Department.

The sheriff’s office says it will work with an outside agency to conduct a separate internal affairs investigation.

“The Elko County Sheriff’s Office understands that this is a very significant allegation against a member of this office and will provide our full cooperation to discover the facts surrounding this case."

“Sheriff (Aitor) Narvaiza understands the impact that this type of event can have on the community and this office. The Sheriff would like to assure our community that he fully supports both criminal and administrative investigations. Sheriff Narvaiza also fully supports the Elko County District Attorney’s Office in their decision to charge this case. The Sheriff’s Office will provide full cooperation with the criminal investigation, as well as ensure that the administrative investigation is completed in a thorough and timely fashion.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
