Easter Eggs

Washoe Valley families will once again gather along the shore of Washoe Lake for a tradition that has been part of the community for more than five decades.

The South Valley Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, at the south end of Washoe Lake State Park in New Washoe City, inviting families from across Washoe Valley and surrounding communities to take part in the long-running event.

Organizers say more than 3,000 brand-new candy-filled Easter eggs will be hidden across the area for children to discover.

Before the hunt begins, children and families will have a chance to meet the Easter Bunny, who is scheduled to arrive at 11:30 a.m. The egg hunt will begin promptly at 12 p.m.

Children ages 0 to 12 are invited to participate, and families are encouraged to arrive early so children are ready when the hunt begins.

The South Valley Volunteer Fire Department has organized the Easter Egg Hunt since the early 1970s, making it one of the longest-running family traditions in the South Valley community. The event is organized by volunteer firefighters and community supporters who help prepare and hide thousands of eggs each year.

Parking at Washoe Lake State Park will cost $5 per car, with proceeds supporting the South Valley Volunteer Fire Department and its community programs.

Organizers say the event will take place rain or shine.
